: : Fruit Flan & Thai Food : :

Update : Forgot to mention that the Pandai Thai Delight doesn’t serve very spicy dishes. So, if you are a person who cannot quite take spicy food but still enjoy a bit of hotness, this is the place for you. What I should have done is asked whether they could have made the food spicy-er for us. One thing for sure, the food came out VERY FAST.

Ack! Had to go and run out and get the birthday cake for Pascale and KSL. Remember the two dinner appointments mentioned earlier? Since I offered to bring the birthday cake, had to rush to the bakery and then dropped it off at my collegue’s house.

Bought the cake from Sunflower Deli. Since Mr. Ngui advised to get a fruit flan with fresh cream, I bought this huge cake. Then, rushed over to drop it at the house. After that, another rush to Pandan Thai Delight.

Had dinner with Joyce, Gette, Sheebs and Jia Hui. Yes, the gorgeous and cute Chocolate Frogstar. Huai Bin was supposed to join us as well but he had already made other plans.

We all thought that this was a really cute way to provide the rice for everyone.

This was the mixed vegetables with glass noodles @ tang hoon. Simple yet tasty. Wasn’t so spicy. Errr… I could say not spicy for me, Joyce, Sheebs and Jia Hui. Not sure about Gette as she was the only one that does not go around eating extremely spicyfood.

The prawn green curry was served in a very cute and quaint little pot with it’s own holder. It was heated up using a small candle that is used to heat up scented oils. Again, not that spicy but it was tasty. Luv the aubergines @ terung that was added to it.

This was fried tilapia with Thai herbs. Could only deduced that Thai herbs were shredded lemon grass which is the messy concoction you see on top of the fish. Still, it added a nice flavour to the overall dish.

Now what is a Thai meal without some Tom Yam soup? This is the clear water version with seafood inside. We found prawn @ shrimp and squid inside. Wah! Tasty! But, not so spicy.

Tasty but not that sour so it was agreeable with our stomachs. This was the mango and papaya salad. The papaya used is the unripe version, same goes for the mango as well.

There was also the roast chicken but because the table we sat in was small and we were all concentrating on not knocking anything down, I forgot to take a picture of it.

I was halfway eating this wonderful dessert before I realised I forgot to take a picture! So, camera came out and I took a shot of the water chestnut in jelly and with coconut milk. The pink colour came from the rose syrup used. It was nice except that the rose syrup unnerved us a bit. We all never had it before but it added an interesting taste to the dessert.

Pandan Thai Delight is located at the new RH shoplots in the BDC area. It’s next to the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and the BDC roundabout.

And, meeting up with Sheebs is always a hilarious occasion with her witty comments. Here are some of them :

On the homemade ice-cream available at The Ranch at King Center.

I have 4 stomachs and one of them is reserved for ice-cream.

On a car with a big exhaust pipe that revved up loudly.

My, there goes a farthing car.

BTW, Huai Bin, we were thinking of going to eat some steamboat tomorrow nite. Wanna join us? SMS me.

Ciao people!

Any differnce between taking pictures without asking and right clicking yours to download it? You have said it is “uncool” to do so.

But why do we have to stand on ceremony? By the time you reply to emails, they would have been gone! It is a matter of courtesy I suppose.

If you are afraid of your pics being stolen, install the anti right click software. But don’t forget there is still the screen cature tools available.

Cheers

My answer? Not a nice one.

mwt : different issues here. they were worried that i will post up the pics with bad reviews. or worst, make complaints about the food.

i put the notice up in the event that ppl will link to the pics by using my account hence bandwidth issues. also stealing the pics for commercial reasons. but u’re rite about the screen capture and anti-right click. that’s why i did not put in anti-right click. didn’t seem to work well with all the javascript that was already in the template.

am i offended by your comment? nope. u have the right for your comments. i have a right to blog what i want. :p if u feel offended, feel free to stop coming to the blog. i’m not stopping you neither am i begging u to go on. 🙂 it’s your perogative. i ran the posting as it is knowing that i will get the wrath of viewers like yourself. not to mention the restaurant owner.

with any review, be it food or otherwise, there’s a 50-50 chance that the author will say something not nice about it. it’s a dicey thing and is worrisome for people. but that’s the risk one has to handle.

piagiarism is rampant. i’m not so bothered about it, hence only the disclaimer for taking my pics is up and no anti-right click setup. if readership for the blog, goes down, it’s fine by me. the blog was for my sister and mum and friends.

and like i said, if u feel offended, feel free to stop visiting. no one is going to stop you, including myself. and this goes for the rest of you out there.

for context, goto :

Like my Mum says, small problem. After this, I’m going to let the issue settle down.

A bit of information before reading before. Today, I got told off for the first time for taking food pictures at a little cafe. Was debating whether to post the pictures or not. I was wrong and admitted it but was still told off repeatedly after that. Below is the conversation that took place at this little cafe with the proprietor, or one of the proprietors, I’m not sure. The cafe served nice food and very fast as well. It was delicious but the mood was spoilt. Some more, it was a friend’s birthday today and we treated her out to lunch. This friend was Pascale, a long time supporter of my blog and picture taking endeavours.

Roast Chicken look like the one from Dave Deli’s in Kuala Lumpur and Pete’s Deli in Miri. Taste good that Patty Cake finished everything.

Lamb casserole was ordered by Mr. Ngui who polished it all off as well.

I ordered the fish and chips and yes, whack it all up as well. Nothing was left on the plate.

Pascale had this. For a little gal, she sure can eat a lot! This is the beef casserole.

Halfway through eating.

Madam : Excuse me but may I ask why were you taking pictures? We saw you taking pictures of the food and were wondering whether the food was fine or not.

Wena : It is actually very nice. I’m taking pictures to put on my website where I do food reviews of places I’ve eaten in Kuching.

Madam : Well, it’s not nice that you didn’t inform us that you were taking the pictures. In future, you should let people know that you are taking the pictures. We don’t know whether the food is good or not. So, you shouldn’t be taking pictures of food without letting someone know.

Wena : Do you want me to delete the photos? I can do it right now and show you that it’s gone.

Madam : No no no. What I meant was that you should have told us that you were taking pictures of the food. Even if you had good intentions, you should have done that.

By this time, I could see that she was more nervous than me so decided not to say too much.

Wena : Two things here. One, you said that I should have told you and I just did tell you it’s for the website. The 2nd issue is different : do you want me to delete the pictures or not?

Madam : No no. No need. But you should have told us why you were taking the photos instead of just taking them. We will not know if the food is good or not. Next time you should do that.

Wena : Ok.

At that point, she left and we went back eating. Did we say anything bad? Nope. We ate everything, did not ask for discounts and paid the full bill. About 10 minutes later, two ladies came up to me requesting for my website, stating that their boss wanted it. So, wrote it down and perhaps you’re reading this now. Thank you for your business card. When we all left, I turn around and saw the proprietor putting down his meal and nodding his head. I gave a small smile, turn around and had a good laugh with my collegues.

I’m not in the habit of putting up reviews of places that served bad food. If it’s bad, it’s not going up. That’s all.

Granny : Aiya! No need to put up pictures one. You get into trouble only!

Well, since I already gave them my website, they will be looking for the pictures so here they are. I spent awhile thinking about the whole incident and wondering what to do. Decided to post them anyway and provide the gist of the conversation.

They were more scared than me. But like I said, I’m do not put up bad reviews of places. Never have and will not start now. The conversation above was what took place. It was a summarized conversation but no sharp words or anger was displayed by either myself or the lady involved.

Thinking thinking thinking some more. Some thoughts did cross my mind :

Pascale : You should have told them how many people actually visit your blog!

If I were a newspaper reporter, it would have been worst. Readership is a lot more and across the community, let alone the state. This blog has a small readership in Kuching and elsewhere. Most of the time, the people who end up here came from search engines like Yahoo or Google. Revealing to them how many people read the blog wouldn’t have helped in this scenario.

I was deliberately and always will be, obvious when it comes to taking pictures. If someone wanted to spy, they would have brought along a camera handphone and no-one would have known.

At the end of it all, it was really good food and I enjoyed it there. The atmosphere of the little cafe was nice and the decorations was interesting. The food prices were very reasonable and affordable as well. Everything was quaint and dandy. Bear in mind that what happened today was a result of something that I did not do because I did not see any harm in it but they didn’t.

So, HB, we gotta tell people we’re taking pictures of food lah!

Pascale, Happy Birthday anyway! I will bring you a cake tomorrow nite!
