  1. dun ever buy taiwanese brands like acer or benq. i had really bad experience repairing many of their pcs n laptops 2 such an extent dat e acer care support can’t repair it, have 2 send all e way 2 kl! when i was in penang, my acer engineer frens dun even dare 2 use their own products! haha!

i c dat u play alot of games, e best is 2 build urself. if too troublesome, get a dell. dell just bought alienware, e benchmark in pc gaming with falcon northwest! dell also have more hardware configuration features catering 2 gaming now expecially e offering of ageia physics accelerator cards.

as well as being trusted by nvidia 2 use their superios quad sli gaming graphic cards – e fastest n most powerful card configuration rite now!

why dell? good support, veli stable, i recommended over 15 dells over e last 4 years (no one is complaining) n me n bro r using e laptops, great support, no problem, veli stable, they r world no.1 now not 4 nothing.

  2. hmmm…just saw the price and my head when whack. going to have to surf from home as net connection at work is lagging bigtime.

me, i have nitemares with LG so never going to buy them again. dell, i heard that their Latitude laptops are great but not for the other laptops.

hmm…are you speaking about the latest XPS laptop? or was it this pc? http://www1.ap.dell.com/content/products/features.aspx/desktops_Q2_W6_2006-06-13_dimen_9150_N210613?c=my&l=en&s=dhs

the XPS laptop is going something less than RM4500 or less than RM4400 . the desktop was RM3900++ but not sure whether the XPS has it.

my PC knowledge is sorely lacking. 🙁 oh, with the Quad SLI, eep! looks like have to go with the major manufacturers.

  3. ok never mind. i found it. it’s about the same cost here. hmm…wondering whether it’s worth it. haha! i’m not that hardcore at gaming.

  4. Diehardx is right about Taiwanese PC brands. A real hassle to support.

    Branded PCs will cost you.

I’d recommend getting a well made clone. It doesn’t have to be too expensive and for most people, a medium spec system is more than good enough.

Usually in this kind of situation, my first question would be,”What’s your budget?”

The second question would be,”What do u plan to do with your PC?”

Answer these and we can get to the specifics.

Feel free to email me with more questions.

  5. Hey sis,

The laptop I got is an XPS laptop (Remember? I posted about it? :P)

I bought the XPS m140, 1 GB RAM, 80 GB hard drive, wireless card, integreted modem (like anyone uses that anymore) and network card, 14 inch screen..

Only issue is that the video card is integrated into the motherboard, so I doubt that can be upgraded.

Seems to work good, granted I got the lower end version, about USD$1200. Now I see they have newer models.

  10. hi wena. dell any stuffs r goodlah. at least my recommendations r dimensions n inspirons were all working fine. i am using their workstations in my nus uni running super powerful virtual reality softwares n no problem!

of coz clone is good but 2 me, nowadays e price have come so close down 2 dell dat there is not too much difference. i mean dell comes 2 repair on e next day on site. convenient 4 u too expecially u r busy working n dun wan 2 bring back pc 4 maintenance. unless u r good at repairing urself.

secondly, dell ever told me dat i can quote them any same system configuration at e market being advertised i c n they will lower down their prices 2 match it if theirs happen 2 b more expensive.

but if u insist on clone, i can help u too as i built many clones myself in e past-but can onli give online advice. or u can approach mr.huai bin! he should b e rite person 2 approach 4 a good choice. i know he is capable but i dunno whether he is updated with e latest desktop parts development nowadays when he is busy working.

finally, from experience just these few months. dun buy IBM! super lousy support! after lenova bought over their laptop n desktop, e support (at least in s’pore) is ridiculous! my few coursemates have nitemare dealing with them.

  12. sounds like DELL singapore is giving better support than DELL Malaysia. i’ve had people from work, vendors and friends who are extremely frustrated with DELL. the laptops and desktops were failing either during the 1st year or within the 3 years.

as for the price, DELL Malaysia is about a few hundred more expensive than a clone PC. but then again, remember that the prices in Sarawak is higher than KL prices by about 10%-50% (yes, people actually get swindled still). and, i think but didn’t really check in detail, DELL Sg prices are more expensive than DELL Malaysia. if you earn in Singapore dollars, it’s alright. Earning in Malaysian ringgit is the pits.

IBM? can’t afford them. haha! although in my office, we usually use them and if maintained well, they last unless they were unfortunate with a problematic batch.

at the end of the day, i just think computers don’t last without aircon. haha!

huai bin is very busy. don’t want to kacau him lah! but since this posting, a lot of people have offered to help me out so should be no problem.

but thanks for all the tips! makes me feel less of a computer noob! haha!

  14. hmmm, i guess at e end of e day, it is how u take care of ur computer n how unlucky u r 2 get bad parts. well, i also help people buy in sarawak, sabah n so far so good with parts n service. of coz, e cooler e environment, e semicons will perform better(of coz up 2 a range)!

no, e pricing of s’pore n m’sia is e same after conversion. i bought my inspiron 9300 in m’sia. n i nvr heard about e price in sarawak being 10-50% more expensive as i did purchases myself as i am sarawakian too. i wonder who told u dat. e price is e same if u buy online. unless u dun, then different story perhaps.

as 4 comparing with clone pcs, well, it is bundled with ORIGINAL OS, so there u go. haha! n they use top end parts like burners of NEC (which is best dvd burner now with toshiba), top monitor makers, top motherboard makers n so on. all these things u can’t compare with clone pcs becoz when u really compare brand by brand, Dell will come out cheaper. some parts r not even marketed into e commercial market.

k, watever it is, all e best n may u get wat u wanted. n no, i have no relationship with dell watsoever, if u r wondering. HAHAHA!

  15. well, u’re right about the way people use PC products. i’ve experienced firsthand how DELL servers crashed twice in less than a year. as for laptops, even my colleague who is a light user i.e. only after work and no games, had his laptop failed after 2-3 years.

oh, the pricing conversion between singapore and malaysia was on the DELL system. was using the exchange rates at Yahoo.com .

as for the prices in sarawak being 10-50% higher than KL, this is not DELL but generally what you find in the PC stores. Kuching is about 10-20% higher but when you goto Miri, the price is pretty scary, if the last PIKOM PC Fair in April-May this year was any indications.

you’re also right about clone PCs and parts not even marketed into the commercial market. and that’s where it gets a little bit tricky. if it’s not marketed, there is always the question on whether there is good technical support. and again, i would still be careful when dealing with DELL Singapore and DELL Malaysia. The voice of the customer in Singapore is stronger than in Malaysia so the customers reap the rewards in terms of better service and quality but with hefty price.

u’re right about that chip though and that only the brand name folks can handle the configuration. so i’m still thinking and pondering. got another week to do some homework!

  16. one thing for sure, this can literrally become a dedicated blog posting in itself!
